Oldest Labasa Player Thanks His Family And Friends For Support

He may be the oldest player playing in Labasa football team, but instead defender Taniela Waqa is the backbone of his team.
Mr Waqa is one of the flashy players in the team, who has been playing football for over 20 years.
He started his career at the age of 16 in Lautoka where he played alongside his older brothers Maika Waqa and Bakalevu Moceimereke.
The 39-year-old said like any footballer, support from friends and family members was one of the key factors that had helped him overcome various challenges in life.
“Many don’t know the challenges we footballers go through. Its things like having to balance training, work and family time. Sometimes we get injured but only thing that keeps me going is the passion to play the sport,” he said.
The Nacula, Yasawa, native who shares maternal links to Buavou, Macuata also said support was very important and he was fortunate to have his family and friends who helped him along the way.
“It’s over 20 years of playing and with every game I play it is as if it’s my first. Football is an exciting sport and one of the reasons I played was because I got the chance to represent Labasa.”
He thanked all his team players for making this win possible.
