Digicel national futsal head coach Jerry Sam is optimistic of a good outing in the OFC Futsal Cup despite losing their opening match on Tuesday night.

The Filipe Baravilala-captained side went down 4-2 to New Caledonia at the Vodafone Arena, Suva.

Sam praised the performance of his players.

“It was just a few wrong decisions, which cost us the game,” the no-nonsense coach told Fiji FA Media.

“I still have faith in my players and I’m sure they will prove it in the next match.

“We will stick to our game plan and I’m sure we will do wonders in our remaining pool games,”

The Fijians were to play Samoa last night.

Sam said nothing was impossible

“I’m sure we can do better and I’m confident the exposure and experience my players are getting in the competition will be great for Fiji.”

Day One results: Fiji 2-4 New Caledonia, Fiji FA President Five 1-5 New Zealand, Vanuatu 9-0 Tonga.

Melanesian Cup

Meanwhile. the Digicel national football side flew out of the country yesterday.

The Flemming Serritslev-coached side is to play in the Melanesian Spearhead Group’s Prime Minister’s Cup in Vanuatu.

The Bula Boys will open its campaign against New Caledonia on Saturday at 5pm.

OFC U19

The Digicel national Under-19 football manager Kartik Reddy said they had their final training session yesterday to prepare for today’s clash against Tahiti in the OFC U19 Championship.

Reddy said the match is crucial because it decides the group winner.

“The coaching staff have been working on areas that we need to improve,” he said.

“There are a few players who are carrying niggling injuries and might be rested for the quarterfinal stage.”

Reddy said they expect a tough battle against Tahiti who will be backed by their home fans at Stade Pater Stadium in Pirae.

Both Fiji and Tahiti have confirmed their places in the quarterfinal stage and this game will decide who tops the pool. The match kicksoff at 5pm.
