Gollings Recounts 2005 Rugby World Cup Moment And Fastracks To Now

Throwback to 2005 Rugby World Cup 7s, Ben Gollings tried to stop Waisale Serevi from scoring the winning try.
Fast track to 2022, Ben Gollings led Fiji Airways 7s team to victory in Cape Town, South Africa.
“It’s quite ironic. Back then, when we were playing, I was playing for England and we’re playing against Fiji,” he said.
“I knew just how much the Cup meant for Fiji but I think it makes it even more greater now the understanding after having been here and being able to help support the team in winning this Cup and bring it home to Fiji. It’s just incredible.
“It’s kind of a bit of like it was meant to be type of story but for me it’s been a fantastic journey.
“I am proud of the players in the way they played and the way in which they went about business last weekend to bring this cup home.”
He is aware how Fijians do celebrate crazily as they won their third RWC title.
“We hear about it a lot. So, to be a part of it and to be able to actually see it firsthand is fantastic,” he said.
“What we’ve seen is the first part (the big welcome at the airport) and I’m sure there’s more to come which is exciting.”
