A tip received from a member of the public regarding a 35-year-old Wainunu farmer’s involvement in the alleged sale of illicit drugs resulted in a successful raid.

Chief Operations Officer (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Khan said Narcotics Officers in Labasa and Savusavu intercepted the suspect at the Salia Jetty where they made the discovery of alleged illicit drugs believed to be marijuana allegedly ready to be sold.

ACP Khan said the suspect allegedly tried to flee the scene, but was apprehended by officers.

He acknowledged the support of the public in sharing information that led to the successful operation where the alleged drugs intended to be sold were intercepted.

ACP Khan said all tips received are pursued, and he hoped that members of the public would understand just how important and potentially life-saving the act of sharing this information can be.

He called on members of the public to utilise the anonymous reporting lines available such as Crime-stoppers on 919 or 917.

ACP Khan assured the public that all information would be kept confidential, and any act by a Police officer that breaches the trust of those providing information would be dealt with through the Fiji Police’s internal disciplinary processes.
