We Are Not A Punching Bag: Nadi Bus Driver

Police are investigating another alleged bus driver assault case. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that bus driver Mohammed Faiyaz Ali, 46, of Nawaka Reservoir Road was alleged to have been assaulted in his bus at the Nadi bus stand around 6.30am yesterday.
Mr Ali who has been a bus driver for the last seven years and works for Khan Buses said he frequently drives the Lautoka – Nadi route.
Mr Ali claimed that the passenger boarded the bus from Sabeto and got off at the Denarau Road Junction.
“The passenger boarded the bus from Stage 3 and only paid $1, that’s not on,” Mr Ali said.
“The passenger assaulted me, I saved my face but he hit my back many times. I feel pain along my spine,” he claimed.
“We drivers are not a punching bag to be pounced at. We have to give income to the bus company.
Also we have families to look after, we sacrifice our time not to be bashed up.”
Ms Naisoro said that a report has been lodged at the Nadi Police Station.
She added that the victim would go for medical as he wanted to complete his trip for the day and would return to the Police Station after work. Investigations are underway.
