Faith in God, Passion and love for the job has brought me this far, says Sakiusa Jitoko. The 64-year-old had spent half of his life entertaining tourists and visitors on board the Captain Cook Cruise vessel.

He joined the Cruise in 1991 and until today, he was still thankful to God for the opportunity 30-years-ago.

“I’m blessed that if it hadn’t been for my steady faith in God I wouldn’t have come this far,” he said.

During my teen years it was hard to look for a Job because back then there were few job opportunities for us.”

“One day I heard that Captain Cook Cruise was looking for new recruits onboard so I decided to grab the opportunity and this was the best decision I ever made.”

“I was able to provide for my family even until now.”

Mr Jitoko hails from Levuka-i-Daku in Matuku, Lau.

The Lau native said, back then it was different because they had to look for islands to host tourists.

“We were only sailing through the Kadavu waters and it was a struggle before we found Tivua Island.

“Now with more tourists coming in and out, the crew members and I will only do what we do best and that is ‘to serve’.”

Mr Jitoko started as a public relation officer and at the same time entertaining passengers.

“With vast experience over the years it has given me the opportunity to share my knowledge with the younger generation so they can continue what Fiji is known for, its cheerful and happy life.”

Mr Jitoko has four children and is thankful to Captain Cook Cruise Fiji management and staff for always having him around.
