When the late Dr Neville Narayan was alive he was always a kind hearted person serving Nalawa villagers in the Ra Province. Dr Narayan allegedly drowned while swimming in the Nausori River in Nalawa, Ra, last Friday.

The alleged incident took place at around 5.30pm when the victim, who had gone swimming with two others, and was swept away by strong currents.

Help was sought from the villagers nearby who managed to recover his body. In a statement, the Turaga Na Vunivalu Na Tui Nalawa, Ratu Epeli Niudamu expressed his condolences on behalf of the vanua of Nalawa District in Ra Province to Dr Narayan’s family.

 

Dr Narayan, who was based at the Waimaro Health Centre in Rakiraki, was the eldest of two siblings. He was to celebrated his 28th birthday on October 2.

Ratu Epeli said he was known to almost all villagers in the Nalawa District. He was described as an energetic doctor.

“We have lost a faithful servant. A doctor who was well known in our area because he formed a good relationship with the Nalawa communities in the past two years,” he said.

 

“He will always be remembered in our hearts.”

He said he noticed Dr Narayan was a hardworking person who had a great passion for medicine.

“He was always supportive to the people of Nalawa and was kind-hearted,” he added.

“Dr Narayan always serves patients at any time they arrive at the hospital, he will never complain or tell off any patient.”

“The people of Nalawa are saddened with the sudden and unexpected death of our beloved medical doctor.”

Dr Narayan was laid to rest in Nadi yesterday.
