Prepare For The Cyclone, Festive Season: Police Chief

Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho is advising members of the public to prioritise safety as Fiji enters into the cyclone season from November.
He said Fiji was fortunate to have had a disaster period not so severe last time when compared to previous ones.
“It’s good to see people already preparing for the cyclone season and planting kumala and those types of crops,” he said.
“It’s a good wake up call for us to be prepared for that.
Festive Season Operation
With more than 5000 in the Fiji Police Force, Brigadier-General Qiliho highlighted that it was ready for its operation for the festive season.
“Preparations for the festive season are part and parcel of Police activities. We do that all the time,” he said.
“At the end of the day, those who grab those gadgets take it somewhere and we’ve noticed a drop because we are targeting the receivers.
He said the criminal activity was tied to the use and sale of marijuana because people would trade the stolen goods to sustain their drug habits.
Marijuana Destroyed
He further said there were many more marijuana that needed to be destroyed as Police continued to up- root the drug from many hotspots.
These areas include the Tukavesi area, Navosa hills and Kadavu.
“We go through the process. It’s not just a short process. We have to get all the papers prepared well and the forensics analysis reports in each of those cases before it’s submitted to the ODPP office,” he said.
