Mahipraya Meddepola is the head years. Originally from Sri Lanka, Fiji has been home to Mr Meddepola for seven years.
He manages the investment portfolio of the Unit Trust of Fiji and part of his role is finding avenues for Fijians to invest on and get a satisfactory return.
“It’s a tedious job when you access certain investment opportunities, recommendations to be given to the respective boards as to whether the viability of those projects and the return perspective,” he said.
He worked at a trading company for three years when he first arrived in Fiji before joining the Trust.
“I am enjoying the company of friendly Fijians with their big Bula smiles and I love the culture,” he said.
“There’s a lot of positivity around economic activities here and Fiji is a great place to work.”
How many places have you visited around Fiji?
My wife and I have been to Vanua Levu, around Viti Levu, Taveuni, Levuka and Kadavu.
What is the one place in Fiji you would take visitors to, and why?
Kadavu is my favorite place, second to Taveuni.

What is your favourite place for coffee/pie, and why?
Café Planet Fiji, Coral Coast. I am not a coffee person but I love the place.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Bird photography. During the weekend I go out to the seawall and Colo-i-Suva to take pictures of birds.
What is one place in Fiji that remains on your bucket list, and why?
Rotuma and Vanuabalavu are on my bucket list.
