For the first time Ra High School Under-19 rugby side secured a spot in the Vodafone Deans Trophy semifinal at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, next Saturday.

This was after they defeated Nasinu Secondary School 15-13 at Bidesi Park, Suva, this afternoon.

Head coach Luke Serubasaga said his players usually play rugby league.

“This year for the first time we decided to play rugby union and reaching this far was a great achievement,” he said.
Serubasaga said two of their players Apisalome Vunisa and Vili Taria are members of the Fijian Under-18 rugby league schoolboys team.

“We knew Nasinu would be stronger because of their forward pack, so I devised a plan to counter that,” he said.
“This will be the first time for Ra High to participate in the semifinal.

“Playing rugby league last season helped them to maintain that momentum as they have been playing together.
“We made a lot of mistakes, come next week we will be ready.”

In another U19 quarterfinal, Ratu Navula College beat Queen Victoria School 10-8.
