Remembering Peter Lomas And Other Pioneers

As staff, management and the board of directors celebrate the Fiji Sun’s 23rd anniversary, we pay tribute to the pioneers and those who played a prominent role.
Some of them are no longer with us.
While the list is long, we recognise the immense contribution by Peter Lomas for his vision and work.
Mr Lomas laid the foundation by progressively revamping the newspaper.
He did it by training staff and upgrading equipment to meet the modern expectation of the media industry in a competitive environment.
He believed that these were two critical factors that would help achieve the desired outcome of producing the kind of content that resonated with the readers.

This process continues today and is part of his legacy.
The Fiji Sun has invested in sending its staff to prestigious universities and higher learning institutions here and abroad to gain qualifications that would enhance their work.
It has a dedicated in-house training programme, believed to be the only one in the media industry.
Newsroom, advertising and production staff have also benefited from the invaluable exposure to outside training.
It has helped in producing a product that we are all proud of.
Today we also recognise the contribution of staff and wish them all the best for the future.
They have kept alive the hopes and dreams of our late pioneers.
