This could be the first time in the history of the Vodafone Deans Trophy that no Eastern schools have made it to the Under-18 semifinals.

This was confirmed by Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union vice-president Savenaca Muamua.

“This is history,” Muamua said after Marist Brothers High School beat Ratu Kadavuevlu School 16-13 in the last quarterfinal.

“As far as I know this is the first time no Eastern Zone school has qualified to the national semifinals.”

The schools in the Eastern Zone have dominated the Deans Trophy competition for the past many decades. These schools are Ratu Kadavulevu School, Queen Victoria School, Lelean Memorial School and Cawaci’s St John’s College in Ovalau.

In the other quarterfinals, Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute beat Nasinu Secondary School 12-5, Suva Grammar School walloped Lelean Memorial School 21-8 while defending champions Queen Victoria School suffered a 21-19 loss to Natabua High School.

In next Saturday’ semifinals at Prince Charles Park, Nadi,: Ba Pro takes on MBHS while Natabua faces Suva Grammar School.
