The Vodafone Festival of the  Friendly North committee has begun promoting its 14 Queen and King contestants.

Last Saturday, the committee through the assistance of the Savusavu Town Council chief executive officer Seema Dutt, took the contestants for a tour to Savusavu.

They visited Koro Sun Resort and Rainforest Spa, Daku Resort, Nawi Island, Jean Michel Cousteau Resort, J. Hunter Pearl and have a photoshoot shoot at Namale Resort.

Committee’s president Rajneel Maharaj said this year’s theme was a healthy and prosperous North and in line with this they wanted the contestants to see what life was like apart from Labasa.

“Each contestant would be advocating on various issues which has been a norm over the years,” Mr Maharaj said.

“Although the weeklong event will be held at Subrail Park,Labasa, we want them to realise that we also work to help other parts of the Northern Division in terms of community projects.”

He thanked all the hosts in Savusavu for their kind hospitality.

Fire Victim Assistance

The committee has assisted nine households in the Northern Division whose properties were destroyed in fire this year.

Mr Maharaj said each family received a $500 cheque.

Also the Rotary Club of Labasa received $3000 from the festival committee to assist them in their Autism project.

The festival will be held during the school holidays from October 8-15.
