Amateur boxer, Mikaele ‘Lightning Fist’ Ravolaca, wants to do Fiji proud internationally.

Hailing from Nasavu in Ra, Ravolaca beat the experienced Elia Rokobuli on split points decision in their three-round lightweight fight during the Lewis-Hill Boxing Promotions at the FMF Gymnasium, Suva, on Saturday night.

Ravolaca was too fast for Rokobuli who recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Speaking to SUNsports, Ravolaca said he wants to build his boxing career around the win.

“I want to show the world that there are lots of boxing talents in Fiji and they can come and fight us here,” he said.

“My current weight is 59kg (kilogrammes) but I had to increase it to 62kg because my opponent weighed in at 64.3kg. I will keep on working hard and will continue to prepare for my next opponent.”

Ravolaca said he was able to execute all the punching combinations he had been working on for the past few months.

“He (Rokobuli) went to the Commonwealth Games and had all the resources for training while for me I just trained in Fiji.

“When I was training for this fight, my goal was to beat him because it will determine my progress to the next level.

“I wanted to showcase my talent so that promoters could see the potential I have.

“To me that is the last step, I want to keep climbing the ladder in boxing so that I could bring a world championship fight to Fiji.

“I don’t want to reach Australia or New Zealand’s level.

“I want to fight for a world title. I don’t want to be a Fiji champion but I want to be a world champion one day.”
