US Hosts A First With Pacific Leaders
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama addressed the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 24, 2022.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is in Washington DC for the first ever Summit of Pacific leaders with the President of the USA Joe Biden.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Fijian Government yesterday.

The summit will be held from the 27th of September at the White House.

 

Aim of Summit

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the summit would demonstrate the United States’ deep and enduring partnership with Pacific Island countries and the Pacific region that is underpinned by shared history, values, and people-to-people ties.

She added that the summit would reflect our broadening and deepening cooperation on key issues such as climate change, pandemic response, economic recovery, maritime security, environmental protection, and advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific.
