Apisalome Nawai Vunisa is ticking the boxes of what is required of him.

First, is representing the Fijians Under-18 schoolboys against the Australian schoolboys in today’s clash at Albert Park, Suva.

The Matawailevu, Nalawa, Ra lad also helped Ra High School U19 side create history after beating Nasinu Secondary School, 15-13, in last Saturday’s Vodafone Deans Trophy quarterfinal at Buckhurst Park, Suva. They take on Ratu Kadavulevu School in tomorrow’s semifinal at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

Vunisa shares maternal links to Nakorosule, Naitasiri.

“We played rugby only since we were in Under-15 so rugby union was introduced to us this year,” he said.

“It was not tough, switching codes. I’m grateful to be selected for national duties in the Under-18 grade; this has been a dream. I want to secure a contract so I can help my parents. For the semifinals, we had a lot of penalties last week from high tackles and shoulder charges and we will work on those. It will be tough but we are ready to take on RKS.”

After today’s rugby league clash, Vunisa travels to Nadi to play in the Deans semifinals.
