The Marist Brothers High School Under-18 rugby side is not carried away with its 16-13 win over defending Vodafone Deans Trophy champions Ratu Kadavulevu School in the national quarterfinal last Saturday.

It has been a learning process after they finished third in the Southern Zone now moving on to play Western Zone champions Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute in today’s second semifinal at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

MBHS head coach Jone Temo said, they were not deterred after finishing third in the zone, they thanked God for being their source of strength especially for the players during their preparations.

He said that Fijiana 7s head coach Saiasi Fuli joined them last week to assist in their coaching department.

“We have had to work on our mistakes before heading to the West,” he said.

“We need to improve on our backline moves and our lineouts. He (Fuli) just came last week to help because we needed his tactics,” Temo added.

The Kaunikuila (Flagstaff) boys last won the Deans Trophy in 1978, they drew with Ratu Kadavulevu School.

Meanwhile, MBHS prop Izrael Hesaie was named in the national U18 side which is preparing for their New Zealand tour next month.

National U18 players representing their schools at the Deans semifinals were released to be available for today’s semifinals.

Hesaie and his prop partner Jesse Veramu have been in the thick of things winning vital possession for MBHS.
