A team has been tasked by the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, to arrest suspects who allegedly abducted and assaulted two men in Raiwaqa.

Amenayasi Yanuyanutawa and Esala Tawake claimed they were rounded by six men while they were buying liquor at the Top Shop in Raiwaqa around 2am, on Sunday morning.

Mr Yanuyanutawa and Mr Tawake alleged they were approached by the men who they thought were officers from the Criminal Investigations Department.

The men’s uncle, Bose Yanuyanutawa told the Fiji Sun that after being rounded up by a group of men at the shop they were allegedly taken to a house in Flagstaff where they were beaten up with visible stab wounds on one of the victims.

Mr Yanuyanutawa alleged that if the two had not escaped from the house in flagstaff, they would have been found dead.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said one of the youths remains admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva as investigation continue.

What Transpired?

Mr Yanuyanutawa claims the alleged incident could have a possible link to the ‘Raiwai terror’ that happened along Nairai Road on the morning of Sunday, August 14, 2022.

“A vehicle had allegedly stopped in front of them while they were buying liquor at the Top Shop in Raiwaqa. The two thought they were officers from the Criminal Investigations Department,” he said.

“When the six men had allegedly gotten off the vehicle, they started hitting them. After hitting them, they were forcefully carried inside the vehicle.”

“From there, they were alleged to have been taken to a house in Flagstaff, they further assaulted them there,” he claimed.

“He tried to escape whereby two men chased after him, grabbed him and beat him up. He was the first one to run away.”

“Mr Yanuyanutawa was stabbed, he alleged the men wanted to gut him. He pretended that he had died lying unconsciously on the ground,” he added.

“He overhead the men that they will bury him. This is where he punched the men and ran away from there.

“He ran to the closest house which belongs to a teacher. The teacher brought him home and told the mother what had happened.”

He said by the time they went to report the alleged incident at the Raiwaqa Police Station, they found out Mr Tawake had lodged a report. Police investigations continue…
