No Need For A Caretaker Govt To Be Appointed: Saneem
Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem.

Supervisor of Election Mohammed Saneem has confirmed there is no need for a caretaker Government to be appointed when the campaign starts.

Mr Saneem made the comment after The People’s Alliance deputy leader Manoa Kamikamica claimed FijiFirst should have called for a caretaker Government as soon as the campaign period was announced.

This was during a press conference yesterday. Mr Kamikamica claimed that conveniently, it did not, and claimed it used Government funds to push their campaign.

“Handouts have targeted youth, women and farmers, so they cannot argue that the assistance was not politically motivated,” he alleged.

“We should not have political opportunists taking advantage of public trust and abusing it for their own re-election.”

In response, Mr Saneem said by law, there was no need for a caretaker Government to be appointed.

He said all ministers remain holding their ministerial portfolios and Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu would still hold on to the Opposition leader post until the writ was issued.

Questions sent to the FijiFirst party regarding Mr Kamikamica claims remained unanswered by the time this edition went to press.
