Produce Substantial Evidence, Saneem Tells All Political Parties

The Supervisor of Election, Mohammed Saneem, says political parties must provide substantial evidence when lodging complaints.
Social media users had raised that he seemed to be taking actions on complaints made by FijiFirst only and not other Opposition political parties.
He said if complaints continued to come based on baseless accounts of evidence or misconceived notions of the law, those complaints could not be upheld.
In an interview, he said never mind if political parties made one or 100-page complaints.
“All political parties have complaints; the Fijian Elections Office has dealt with it and we have provided reasons as to why the complaints have been upheld or it has been dismissed,” he said.
“In the case of a lot of complaints that have been raised with us such as ones of the National Federation Party, they were based on hypothetical scenarios and did not provide sufficient evidence for us to uphold it therefore it was dismissed.”
We have kept the media updated on every complaint we have received against all single political parties. Every allegation on the contrary should also come with evidence to the contrary.
The point is for you to make complaints that are purely on the law.
“Also, they need to provide substantial evidence to back their allegations and at the end of the day it should be enough for us to consider that it is enough for us to breach the electoral laws.”
“If it is there, we will take action. The Fijian Elections Office that is responsible for the monitoring of the electoral process, we conduct the process and we monitor campaigns.”
When questioned as to why it was taking him a long time to review The People’s Alliance com- plaint, he said they received the complaint at 4am on Monday and they addressed it yesterday.
