Waqanidrola’s Boot Ends Marist 44- Year Drought

Marist Brothers High School first five eight, Veremo Waqanidrola, kicked the penalty that ended the school’s 44-year drought as they hoisted the Vodafone Super Deans Trophy.
MBHS with 14 players beat Suva Grammar School 9-8 in the final at Churchill Park, Lautoka, tonight.
MHS manager Tagimoucia Delailomaloma said the team believed in each other.
“We’ve done it and hats off to these boys for a wonderful game, he said.
“Thank God for his provision and guidance throughout this season. We want to dedicate this win to all the old boys and the parents who have their all.
“To the students who came all the way from Suva.”
MBHS No.8 Sowane Rasolo was named the Best Player of the Final. He is the nephew of Ratu Meli Saubulinayau, who captained MBHS win the Deans Trophy in 1976 and 1977.
MBHS took a 3-0 lead from a Brendan Saun penalty.
The SGS struck back with a try to Gabriel Simpson as they led 5-3 at halftime.
Saun kicked his second penalty as they regained the lead 6-5 before Viliame Pasi kicked over a penalty for Grammar to lead again 8-5.
Then Waqanidrola came in for injured captain Benjamin Naivalu and the Eastern Saints rep made no mistake with his penalty attempt.
