Asinate To Create Own Legacy In Rugby

Rooster Chicken Fijiana XV lock forward Asinate Serevi is out to create her own legacy in rugby as she takes up a crucial role in the forward pack in their first World Cup match yesterday at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand.
The daughter of The Magician and the King of Sevens Waisale Serevi, number two of the three siblings Asinate was named in Coach Senirusi Seruvakula’s starting line-up against world Number One England.
“Excited is an understatement, I’ve always watched Fijiana play 15s and 7s, I played for USA but it’s not the same feeling when you actually play for your country,” Serevi said.
“I’m just speechless but mostly excited to take on the field with the girls.
“Just take every opportunity as it comes, no 50-50 in, just go for whatever is in front of you whether you have the ball or not. Just give it your all because you will never get this opportunity back.”
Asinate adds it is honour to represent Fiji and to have her dad at the grandstand it a bonus.
She also acknowledged the support from Fijians at home and all over the world.
“This is the biggest stage in the world and to be here, he (Waisale Serevi) has been here as well so for him to watch me, be here, has been a crazy experience for our family.
So just taking every opportunity as it comes.
“We have suppoters here and it’s also crazy because we still feel that our supporters at home are supporting us here, either way it’s huge for us.
“I think I probably cried from the beginning as soon as everything happened; just seeing all the teams, opening, captains, like everyone welcoming us, I think even for a team just being here is a huge thing for everyone.
“We can feel the support that we have had from all the girls who have been working hard to be here but aren’t here as well, I think that’s what carried us throughout this journey just being able to give in everything and getting into the opening and building up to the next games.”
