The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma head office has received complaints regarding the alleged misused of funds in churches by church ministers or pastors.
Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma general secretary, Dr Semisi Turagavou, said these funds were tithes and money collected by congregations.
Dr Turagavou said the complaints of alleged misuse of funds was received from almost all the divisions throughout the country.
“When questioned as to how many complaints the church received regarding the misuse of funds,” he said he did not know.
“All of these complaints have been referred to the standing committees. We are trying our very best to iron out the issue,” he said.
“We have advised church ministers or pastors for all funds collected by the church to be used in a proper manner.”
“We have discussed this at the head office and we are taking all the complaints we have received seriously.”
He said they would be deal with the matter internally first before it is referred to the authorities.
“The issue has been referred to the standing committee. It depends on the meetings. I believe the church executives will take actions,” Dr Turagavou said.
“As it is an internal matter, the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma Reverend Ili Vunisuwai will handle all the issues being referred to the standing committee.”
