A home which provided 15 years of memories went up in flames for a Nadi family on Tuesday night.

The family, living at Bulubulu Road in Korovuto, Nadi, lost their three double-corrugated iron homes in a fire at around 10.50pm.

It has left four people homeless and destroyed a motorcycle and partially damaged two vehicles.

The burnt property belongs to Farina Fatina Bibi, 38, a mother of three. Ms Bibi described it all as heartbreaking.

“We came from Tavua to reside here 15 years ago, since then all my kids have grown up,” she said.

According to Ms Bibi, the home was not occupied at the time since they left it at 7pm to attend a birthday party in Lautoka.

She added that they were notified by the neighbours of the fire at 10.50pm.

“Whenever I go out of the house, I check all the power points. Even that night I did not even cook any- thing before leaving the house. I did not know that all turned out
this way.”

She claimed the cost of damages amounted to $90,000, including the $10,000 for the motorcycle cost. Currently the four people have taken refuge at the neigh- bours home.

The National Fire Authority said in a statement: “Destroyed in fire is a three-bedroom house and it is understood the house was vacant at the time of the fire. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire incident.”
