Close Finish In Basketball Finals

Expect a grand finish at the Suva Secondary Schools Basketball Championship with lone Tailevu school, Ratu Kadavulevu School not giving up easily.
While secondary Schools giants Yat Sen Secondary School, Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School battle for top honours in all the grades at the Yat Sen School court today, the Lodoni boys have also stamped their mark.
Speaking to SUNsports, president Josefa Daunabou said the competition was hard to predict.
“The intensity of this year’s competition is very different, that is the impact of missing out the last two years,” Daunabou said.
“Tomorrow (today) we have the semis and the finals, momentum has been picking up, so expect the pace of the matches to rise.
“Teams like Yat Sen, Marist and Grammar will want to stamp their mark while Gospel, International Secondary School and RKS stand in their way.”
“It’s good to see some of the rugby players continue to take part in sports straight after the Vodafone Deans competition from last weekend.
“We have only five schools participating in the competition in all grades, some of the regular participants have missed out.”
“That did not kill the spirit of the game and the ones here have turned up to play and are enjoying the competition.
“It has been hard to predict which school will top their pool and qualify.”
Daunabou has urged fans and school supporters to come out in numbers to watch their schools.
“To students out there please come out and cheer for your school, as they battle for a spot in the final,” he said.
“These players need your support and encouragement, the Suva schools are familiar with each other as they are neighbours while RKS is just as determined to return to Tailevu North as winners.”
