Two years after the COVID-19 pandemic police wives converged at the Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) for their annual volleyball tournament to select their team for the upcoming Sukuna Bowl competition.

Fiji Police Wives association secretary Esita Saqanivalu said the turnout has been encouraging as only ten teams had initially expressed their interest in taking part in the two-day event that started on October 14 (Friday).

According to Saqanivalu 39 teams divided into two grades took part.

“When we started sending out invitations, only ten teams confirmed their participation but by the time we closed entries 39 teams were on our list,” Saqanivalu said.

“The turnout is encouraging especially when we have not met the last two years due to the pandemic.

“Teams came all the way from Vanua Levu.

“There are two grades, A and B. A is for seasoned players while B grade is for the new wives and those who have not played volleyball.

“This is an annual event, it is the only time we let our hair time and strengthen our bond as police wives.

“After two days of competition, we will pick our team for the Sukuna Bowl.”

The Southern Division wives were defending champions.
