‘Education, Key to Eradicating Poverty’

A student living with disability believes education is transforming her life and is confident that it would lift her out of poverty.
Nadogo Central College, Darshani Darshika Chand, delivered her empowering speech at the school during the 30th Commemoration for the International Day of Eradication of Poverty yesterday.
The Year 13 student has big plans for her life. Her speech was centred on the topic: Transformation of special children’s education.
She plans to become a teacher for children with special needs.
Darshani comes from a sugarcane farming background and has faced financially challenges to meet her basic needs.
But that has encouraged her to better herself.

Academically, the 20 year-old is proficient and is usually placed in the top three of her class.
She is from Naikelikoso in Nadogo.
“I hope to be an inspiration to other children living with disabilities and encourage them to attain education as a way to progress,” she indicated.
Darshani rose to international recognition when she participated in an online oratory contest that was organised in India recently.
“A good number of Government and non-government agencies are here to help us with their services”.
She stated the viscious cycle of poverty can negatively affect families and young ones.
But, education can bring about prosperity to a family and an individual’s life.
