The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is extending its services to Fiji.

MSC is one of the world’s leading container shipping lines with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. MSC operates 524 offices in 155 countries with more than 100,000 employees.

Its Fiji agent, Coral Sea Shipping, will be based in Nadi to represent and manage all its local operations.

Coral Sea Shipping managing director Melvin Ganesh said that MSC was one of the world’s largest container line operators and as of November 17, it had added Fiji to its diverse worldwide network covering 600 ports.

“Coral Sea Shipping was created to address the rise in demand for trade to and from Fiji.”

“We play an integral part in the pacific and MSC has identified a need enter Fiji with a self-managed service to offer the best value to Fijians,” he said.

He said the official launch would be done later however since the company was in the process of finalising it’s set up, its investment was expected to increase substantially.

“We expect a final investment of over $200K into which includes systems training, office set-up fulfilling all necessary licensing requirements to act as agents for MSC,” he said.

“Our principal operates a global fleet of 600+ container vessels with two vessels – Contship 10 and MSC Kanu F to service Fiji as an extension to their Noumea Express service.”

Mr Ganesh said Coral Sea Shipping had so far employed eight staff at its Nadi branch with expansion plans in the near future.

“Coral Sea Shipping Nadi branch will service both major ports,” he said.

“MSC has plans to extend its services to Fiji from other ports as demand grows and Coral Sea Shipping will expand its presence throughout Fiji in line with the principal’s requirements.”
