Tanoa Group’s $10k Cancer Society Aid

Tanoa Hotel Group is among the first organizations to recognise the need to assist Fijians having to endure the effects of breast cancer.
The group has yet again stepped in to assist the Fiji Cancer Society with a cheque of $10,000.
up area general manager (Fiji), Narend Kumar said the need to support the society and recognise cancer survivors was initiated by the Reddy Group of Companies chairman, Y.P Reddy.
“We have been associated with Fiji Cancer Society for a number of years,” said Mr Kumar.
“As we continue to grow within the region we create a lot of awareness within our hotels.
“Our staff are given one hour every week to participate in wellness activities organized by respective hotel managers.”
Reddy Group director, Kamini Reddy said: “I stand here being a family member whose family has also been affected by breast cancer. So it is very dear to us and I am very proud to say that the family members who were affected are well and doing good.”
The cheque was presented to the society’s board member and western support group chair, Milika Marshall and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services permanent secretary, Dr James Fong at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi last Friday.
An emotional Dr Fong acknowledged the commitment and support rendered by the Reddy Foundation and the Tanoa Hotel Group in also helping the ministry set up the battle against the pandemic.
“There is about one in eight chances of any woman developing breast cancer in their lifetime,” Dr Fong highlighted.
“In Fiji alone we usually get about 600 cases of cancer each year and out of this 200 to 300 are breast cancer, it is about the five most common cancers that we diagnose in Fiji.”
Ms Marshall said the vision of the society was a cancer free Fiji.
