Teachers Share Diwali Spirit With Day Care Children

Students and teachers of the only day care centre in Labasa were among the many who celebrated Diwali yesterday.
Rainbow Day Care Centre managing director Sheela Krishna said that although the children were below the age of four-years-old, she wanted them to be part of the festivities.
There were 30 children, three teachers and four attachees.
“Fireworks are often used to celebrate and when children heard the sound, they knew it has to do with Diwali,” Mrs Krishna said.
“Children are always curious and seek answers, hence it is important we teach them from a young age the true meaning of Diwali.”
The former pre-school teacher of Delai Labasa said Fiji was a multicultural and multiracial country, she taught the students the importance of celebrating Diwali together with love and unity.
“We had made the children cut a cake together and share sweets with each other,” she said.
“I believe children deserve to celebrate Diwali together because this is one of the ways of teaching them to appreciate each other’s culture.”
