Longer Opening Hours For Nightclubs Not A Priority, Says Health Permanent Secretary

Opening hours for nightclubs will not return to normalcy any time soon. This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Health and Medical Services Doctor James Fong.

In an interview, Dr Fong said there were other profitable areas that the ministry was looking into.

“We are concentrating in areas we can work with. The night club hours will probably come in towards the end,” he said.

Dr Fong said while the focus was on preventing the COVID-19 disease, the ministry was also looking at social and economic recovery.

“There are other things that are a priority at the moment,” he said.

“What we are looking for is to generate greater ability to work during the hours we get most of the benefits from.”

“We will have to go there once activities that happen at night begin to happen more robustly and they provide some trade and economic benefits and there’s a greater capacity for us to look at the security side of things.”
