The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has been given time to go over the medical report of SODELPA Member of Parliament Adi Litia Qionibaravi’s health condition.

The matter was called before High Court Judge Justice Dr Thushara Kumarage in the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court at Suva on Wednesday.

Qionibaravi is charged by FICAC with one count of giving false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining financial advantage.

It is alleged that the MP breached the Parliamentary Remuneration Act of 2014 when she claimed travel and accommodation allowances, which she was not entitled to.

The allegation was brought to FICAC by the former Parliament secretary-general, Viniana Namosimalua.

Qionibaravi is alleged to have falsely stated that her permanent place of residence was in Ucunivanua, Verata, in Tailevu, and allegedly obtained $15,480 between August 2019 and April 2020.

The court had earlier ordered a report on Qionibaravi’s health from the medical superintendent of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

The report was given to FICAC commissioner Rashmi Aslam in court for which he sought time to be given so that the commission could go over the report and come back to court on the report.

Justice Dr Kumarage gave the commission until today to pursue the report.

The matter will be called again today.

In a Fiji Sun report on September 6, Mr Valenitabua had told the court that as per his instructions, forgetfulness stepped in, in Qionibaravi’s condition.
