Nitesh Prasad of Nausori has applauded efforts by the Fiji Police Force after his car was driven away from his house on Monday morning.

Mr Prasad said he has been living in Nausori for the past 20 years and it was the first time something like this has happened.

“My wife was sleeping at around 5am when she heard our car starting and that was when I tried to open the door but couldn’t because he must have locked the door from outside,” Mr Prasad said.

“I broke our louvers and crawled out of the window and tried to stop my car. My brother ran out and tried to pull out the key from the moving vehicle and couldn’t but managed to punch the man that was driving my car.”

“I always leave my car key inside the car and I didn’t expect someone to actually drive away with it, especially when it was in my compound.”

Mr Prasad said he went to Nausori Police Station to report the matter.

“At 5:40am I went to report the matter and an officer took my statement. At about 10am or 11am I received a call that my car was found in Nadera,” he said.

“On the same morning, the person who drove my car away stole two phones from my mother’s house. I am really lucky that the Police officers found my car before the person who stole it used it for illegal purposes.

“I want to thank the Fiji Police Force for their quick action. The officers were kind and professional throughout.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said no one has been arrested.
