Ratu Meleti Raimuria, a leading chief of the Yavusa Korocau in Cakaudrove Province, is making a traditional call to Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu to step down from politics.

The Korocau are the tribe of the Bati- traditional warriors to the Tui Cakau.

Ratu Meleti was speaking not as a proposed candidate of FijiFirst party but as a concerned traditional leader.

Out of his love for the people of Korocau and Cakaudrove as a whole, he feels there is a need to change the political leadership of Cakaudrove.

He is therefore warning the people of Korocau, especially the youth and of Cakaudrove Province as a whole to be aware of Ratu Naiqama who is known as a coup supporter following the 1987 coup leader Sitiveni Rabuka.

“We have gone through a political climate following these two leaders in the past and we need to be careful now,” Ratu Meleti said.

“They are coming again to get their votes from you and then mislead you, especially the youths and traditional vanua leaders into believing their anti-government vermin.”

“I am pleading to the people of Cakaudrove to refrain from supporting these two failed political leaders,” he pleaded.

He said they would only lead them astray like yester years where they had used traditional influence to prompt Cakaudrove people to partake in the unlawful activities that had actually contributed to the creation of an unstable political environment and country.

“We all know and have lived through and we must never allow this to re-surface,” he said.

“Hence, it would be best to have Ratu Naiqama retire from politics and return to the vanua.”

He said if Ratu Naiqama doesn’t step down it would prove enough that he had chosen his selfish desire over protecting his own people and the vanua.

When contacted Ratu Naiqama yesterday, he intentionally disconnected the phone call when requested for his comment.
