Damaged Cable Causes Power Supply Disruption

There was an unplanned power outage from 2:17pm this afternoon, Monday 31st October, 2022 which caused a power disruption to our valued customers around the Laucala Bay, Muanikau and Nasese areas who are provided power supply via the Damodar Feeder.

EFL teams established that the underground power cable supplying the affected areas was damaged during excavation works undertaken by China Railway as part of the road upgrading project along the Queen Elizabeth Drive between Muanikau Road and Laucala Bay Road.

The faulty underground cable has been isolated and power supply to most of our customers was restored by 2:55pm this afternoon, Monday 31st October. However, in order to safely carry out further repair works the following areas are still isolated and without power supply:

Muanikau Road, Baka Place, Nicoll Place, Cathedral School, CEPAC Seminary, Corpus Christi College and Muanikau Police Post and Sai Prema Children’s Hospital.

Repair works on the damaged underground power cable is expected to be completed by tomorrow morning. Tuesday 1st November 2022 before power supply is fully restored.

EFL requests members of the public to verify the presence of EFL underground assets BEFORE carrying out any excavation works. Failure to do this could lead to major accidents leading to injuries/fatalities.

A “Permit to Dig” is required for any excavations in the vicinity of EFL power cables. To verify the presence of EFL underground assets please contact EFL on 132333.

The EFL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused to all our affected valued customers due to this unplanned power outage which was beyond our control.
