Do Not Let It Control You: Rep

“We spent a little over $36,000 on providing oxygen for our patients and we spent just a little over $16,000 on paying for medical doctors and nurses to come and perform backlog surgery that wasn’t able to happen because for whatever reason,” she said.

Fiji Cancer Society representative, Margie Erbsleben, urged Jack’s Group of Companies staff members not to let cancer control them.

She said this as the company handed over $10,000 to the organisation.

The company held a walkathon from Corner Café in Nadi to Wailoaloa Beach and also a held a Pinktober breakfast at the cafe where staff members presented the cheque.

“Everyone now has smartphones, they can Google it and they can do research,” Ms Erbsleben said.

“So my message is, do not let cancer control you, you control the cancer.

“You get up, you do research you speak to people, you go to workshops, you find out information.

“You never stop learning and then that way you control the cancer because when it’s still small, you can you know overcome it.”

Fiji Cancer Society does a number of community outreach.

“We do breast check-ups, we do provide pap smear free of charge,” she said.

She said much of the money handed over to the Fiji Cancer Society funded transportation costs for patients.

“We spent about $71,000 last year just on transportation and oxygen,” she said.

“We spent a little over $36,000 on providing oxygen for our patients and we spent just a little over $16,000 on paying for medical doctors and nurses to come and perform backlog surgery that wasn’t able to happen because for whatever reason,” she said.

“We raised $200,000 last year and that’s great.”

“And this is because of individuals like you who have bought tickets to come to functions like this and organisations like Jack’s that have supported and contributed toward our cause.”

Jack’s Group of Companies Fiji managing director, Dilip Katri, commended his workers.

“As I see it, this function has multiple services from a company perspective, it’s our contribution to society, and it also gives a lot of motivation and encouragement to the committee members,” he said.
