Wasu Pillay, New President Elected For The Lautoka Chamber Of Commerce

Renowned Lautoka-based lawyer, Wasu Pillay is the newly-elected president of the Lautoka Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Pillay was elected following the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka on Saturday.

He takes over from former president, Pyara Singh who held the position for 15 years.

Mr Singh announced his retirement at the AGM.

Speaking as the newly-elected president of the Chamber, Mr Pillay said the first order of business for the new committee was to look at the membership of the Chamber.

“I think the caliber of people that is part of this committee really represents a good cross section of Lautoka and it also intends to foster and bring in new innovative ideas within the Chamber and to fulfill its traditional role as the voice of business,” he said.

“We need new members. It is really encouraging to see the level of membership and the level of involvement that this membership drive actually brought forward.”

“But more membership involvement, more membership focused, more membership events so that the membership itself gets to know each other.”

He said the new committee members would also be focusing on the economic placement of Lautoka and the promotion of the city.

Mr Pilly also acknowledged Mr Singh for holding the fort for the Chamber for the last decade.

Mr Singh highlighted that he was confident in the new committee members of the Chamber that would ensure to move Lautoka forward.
