‘Fitness Is The Key To The Right Mix’

Once fit, the Flying Fijians side can do the invincible, says former Flying Fijians first five eight Seremaia Bai.
Bai made the comment yesterday after Flying Fijian head coach Vern Cotter said that the Fijians were ready to take the opposition in their Northern hemisphere tour this month.
Ranked 12th in the World Rugby ranking Fiji faces number six Scotland on Saturday, November 5 at the Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh.
“For the players the exposure is there, they just have to work a little bit on their conditioning,” Bai said.
“There is only one way to win, be fit and stick to what the coach sets up. “Unless they are fit then the right mix of players can give the result we all want.
“We have seen that in the Pacific Nations Cup (PNC), once they are fit they can beat any team.” He added any Fijian team was no different from those in the previous years.
Bai is championing training programmes for novice rugby players, those in primary, secondary and tertiary with his Eastern Saints Rugby Club. Bai played for Leicester Tigers in the Aviva Premiership; he played at flyhalf and inside centre at national level.
Meanwhile the Fijians have moved their training base from Liboure, South Western France to Edinburgh to await Sunday’s (Fiji time) Test match against Scotland. Off the list are star centre, Semi Radradra, who is still recovering from a knee injury, while flanker Mesulame Kunavula, Josua Tuisova and veteran first five eight Ben Volavola did not make it on Cotter’s list.
The Flying Fijians then face Ireland on November 12 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Their last match is against the French Barbarians in Lille on November 19.
