Let’s Go Local: ‘Lau Has The Best Lobsters In The World’
Malaysian entrepreneur KV Soon speaks highly of the interpersonal relations he established on an inland tour to Namosi’s Eco Retreat.

One word – kava, is how a Malaysian entrepreneur and social worker best describes one of the main highlights of his trips to Fiji.

KV Soon, a digital strategist, openly admits his appreciation for the traditional non-alcoholic beverage.

“It takes me away from work before I can even finish what I’m doing,” he said.

“When friends call at a certain hour of the afternoon, to indicate they have started with kava, it takes all of me to try to even turn down the offer of joining them.”

Kava is not imported into Malaysia for biosecurity reasons, thus making Mr Soon’s visits to Fiji something he looks forward to.

In his pastime, he fancies himself as a photographer, and stays active by playing badminton and basketball.

For the most part, he is a husband and father to three.

He is passionate about education.

“My three children are almost completely unschooled,” he said.

Mr Soon believes Star Trek is real.

Where In Fiji You Would Take Friends To?

Namosi Highlands.

It is beautiful place.

We visited Eco Resort, where I felt the genuine connection with people, not tour operators.

I enjoyed the interactions.

Dolphin watching at Natalei Eco Lodge, Nataleira, Tailevu, is another personal favourite.

We took a boat to Moon Bay.

I strongly recommend these two sites – but go when the waters are calm.

What Is Your Favourite Spot For A Coffee Or Pie?

Lazy Beans Café, upstairs Jack’s, Pier Street, Suva.

I live mostly in Suva, so sitting at a corner café above the hustle and bustle of the capital city is fun.

Alternately, quiet corners appeal to me.

I enjoy being by myself, and occasionally hang out with some of the local Chinese bakeries, where simple coffee and bread are available, at affordable prices.

The good thing is, we can customise the coffee.

Intrigued by Fiji’s rich history, Mr Soon is eager to learn more of Fiji’s pre-Christianity era.

What Are Some Places In Fiji That Are On Your Bucket List?

Beqa Island.

It fascinates me enough to want to visit the origins of Fiji’s fire walking.

It is riveting to learn of their abilities to walk on fire.

Savusavu is another domestic destination I would like to spend time at.

Lau Island, I heard, has the best lobsters in the world.
