Melbourne Cup Spectacle On Display

As is tradition with the Melbourne Cup, many women who watched the annual event yesterday showed off their glamorous hats and headdresses.
The event at the Grand Pacific Hotel saw Ashiana Ali scoop the best-dressed award.
“This has also allowed me to showcase what I have put together for this much-anticipated event,” she said.
Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) managing director, Ellen Whippy-Knight said the Melbourne Cup was traditionally a race about horses that is also very closely tied to fashion on the field.

“This is a major thing in Australia, Melbourne Cup in Australia means that everyone comes out; one in 50 people bet on that day,” she said.
Ms Whippy-Knight said this was a great opportunity for Fiji Fashion Week to take on the Melbourne Cup.
“This could have made such a huge difference in terms of what we do and that’s what Melbourne Cup is about,” she said.
“This is an opportunity to dress up and go out, have lunch and meet people to network and enjoy the day and take the risk of whether you win or lose.”
