Group Formed To Have Stronger Voice In Province

A new committee has been formed to ensure the equal representation of women from all three villages of the district of Wairiki, in Cakaudrove.
Villages of Suweni, Navakuru and Satulaki make up the Wairiki District.
This move was spearheaded by the Soqosoqo Vakamarama iTaukei Cakaudrove (SVTC) provincial team.
SVTC president, Adi Salaseni Fong, said previously only a women’s rep was representing the entire district on women’s interest.
She indicated that the aim of the committee formation was to ensure that every voice was heard and issues were addressed from all villages.
The group will also be involved in the SVTC Australian Impact Programme organisational strengthening and leadership programme training.
Ms Fong added that responsibilities should be shared with their male counterparts.
She is a firm believer of rural women empowerment and SVTC will ensure such training also incorporated income generating skills.
Cakaudrove Day
Ms Fong said the Cakaudrove Day celebrations would be hosted from November 24-25.
“Our annual general meeting will be held on November 23 and this will be a time to audit for financial transparency for the year,” she added.
Ms Fong advised all women around Fiji to cast a vote on Polling Day – December 14 and make their voice heard.
