Lateef Given Conditional Practising Certificate

Shazran Abdul Lateef has been granted a conditional practising certificate.
This was highlighted in the Civil High Court by Lateef in the case he filed against the Chief Registrar for cancelling his practicing certificate.
The matter was called before Chief Justice Kamal Kumar at the Civil High Court in Suva.
Lateef appeared in person while counsel representing the Chief Registrar and the Attorney-General, Yovin Naidu appeared for the respondent.
Lateef had claimed that he lost his practicing certificate in 2019 after a series of drug-related charges; however, he was discharged from the case after the Magistrate ruled that there were several discrepancies and inconsistencies in the evidence.
Chief Justice Kumar told Lateef that he was never disbarred from the Bar table.
Mr Naidu told the court that Lateef was granted a conditional practicing certificate and if this matter was to proceed, the respondent would be seeking to know what exactly he had sought for.
Lateef asked the court for two weeks to consider his stand on the application and seek legal advice which was granted by the Chief Justice.
The matter will be called for mention on November 8.
