Court Discharges Radio Announcer From Drug Case

Radio announcer, Paula Nabuta, who was charged with being in possession of illicit drugs, has been discharged by the High Court in Suva.
Nabuta and 21-year-old student Joji Kaitani were jointly charged with two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
It is alleged that on September 28, 2021, at Suva, Nabuta and Kaitani were in possession of 912 grams and 6.34 kilograms of cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana.
The State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Zenith Zunaid filed a nolle prosequi for the charges against Nabuta.
Kaitani pleaded guilty to the charges of being in possession of illicit drugs.
He was found with 54 wrappings of marijuana in a rental vehicle.
High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo said to Kaitani that most of his life, he grew up in Kadavu and knew it was known for drugs.
He said he would have to send Kaitani to jail but there was an element of honesty in him as he pleaded guilty and cooperated with the Police.
The Judge said Kaitani had to keep that honesty as it would take him ahead.
He also told Kaitani to turn his back on crime when he comes out of prison as Naboro was a university for criminals but his advice was to come out clean.
He will be sentenced on today.
