15th Raj Charan National Open Singles Today

26 men will participate at the 15th Raj Charan national Open Singles which starts off today at the Suva Bowling Club.
The two-day annual event is held in memory of the late Raj Charan who was an expert bowler and a tower of strength behind the Fiji Bowls Association.
Charan an accountant by profession had dedicated his valuable time towards the development and promotion of bowls both locally and internationally.
Charan’s widow and children been funding the tournament since 2007.
The winner qualifies as the Fijian representative to the world Champion versus Champion.
His daughter, Denise Charan, said: “Dad was a keen bowler and had served as President, national selector and was the Fiji team manager on numerous bowling tournaments abroad. Bowling has always been a family sport for us and we have many fond memories.
“Dad was always passionate about growing the sport at all levels. Since his passing away our mum, along with my brother and I, decided to continue to support the sport by way of sponsorship towards the national singles tournament in his name,” Denise added.
Suva bowling club manager Ashwini Prakash: “It’s an honour to hold this prestigious tournament. This tournament has so many new bowlers participating for the first time and we wish them success.
“A special thanks to the Charan family for the sponsorship to keep this tournament going.”
Meanwhile, Kushal Pillay and Litia Tikoisuva were the winners in 2020 in their respective categories.
