SODELPA Lodges Complaint Against Ro Filipe

The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has lodged a complaint against Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
This is after it claimed that Ro Filipe blamed a faction of the party for the imprisonment of former party MP Niko Nawaikula.
According to party general secretary, Lenaitasi Duru, the complaint letter stated that Ro Filipe’s statements to one of the media outlets were mischievous, misleading, false, unsubstantiated, and a deliberate attempt to discredit SODELPA and influence the outcome of this election.
“We found that the statement Ro Filipe made that SODELPA was responsible for the imprisonment of Niko Nawaikula was preposterous, so we wrote to the Supervisor of Elections to lodge a complaint under Section 144 A (1),” Mr Duru said.
“Section 144 A (1) of the Electoral Act states that ‘A person or a political party must not publish any information in or outside Fiji and is accessible in Fiji, knowing or having reason to believe the information is a false statement which is likely to influence the outcome of ab election or diminish pubic confidence of any duty or function of the Supervisor and the Electoral Commission.”
He said FEO had responded that they would commence enquiry in regards to the allegations against Ro Filipe.
Questions were sent to the Supervisor of Election Mohammed Saneem and Ro Filipe but no response was received when this edition went to press.
