The Fiji Senior Golfers Association will host the Fiji Gas sponsored- Roger Probert Trophy 2022 at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, this Saturday.

This annual event, which begun in 2008, is between the Fiji Senior Golfers and the Fiji Golf Club (Young Bucks).

The trophy was last played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic where the Fiji Senior Golfers won by 582–542 points.

New golfers

Association secretary Suzie Yee said, this year there would be a number of young seniors playing.

“This will be interesting to see if the trophy could be retained by the seniors,” the former Fiji squash queen said.

She added that following the recent success of the Kimono Sales and the Western Seniors tournaments, a big field is expected this weekend with the course in perfect conditions.

More prizes and food

Executives from the sponsors, Fiji Gas will be present at 7.30am on Saturday to light their cauldron followed by the tee-off at 8am.

“Thanks to Fiji Gas who has given some of their products as prizes together with drinks and nibbles during the prize giving,” Yee said.

Association president Vijay Madhavan said: “The late Roger Probert is remembered for his love for golf and the Fiji Golf Course.

“He used to plant trees on the course where he won an I.O.C (International Olympic Committee) sports and environment trophy.”
