“It was the first time for me to wear my father’s medals which he received while serving on peacekeeping duties in countries like Syria, Sinai, Lebanon and East Timor,” Ms Tagivakatini said.
“Whatever few memories I had flashed back while I stood remembering them.”
The third youngest of six siblings originally from Bau Island thanked her mother, Mareta Tagivakatini for being strong and looking after them in absence of their father.
Among the families were Filomena Nasabo, of Siberia, Labasa who lost her husband, Suliano Qaliwaqa last year due to short illness.
“He became very sick and little did I know that I would stand today to remember him,” the mother of the six children said.
“I really miss him, but I’m thankful for the contribution he made.”
