Increase In Febrile Illness Says Doctor James Fong

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Health and Medical Services Doctor James Fong says there may be an increase in febrile illness in the North
Dr Fong said they are also doing some pre-cyclone cleaning in anticipation of the cyclone season,” Dr Fong said.
“This is also to mitigate the health issues that arise because of the wet conditions.”
Labasa and Savusavu Town Council Special administrator Doreen Robinson is advising ratepayers to keep their yards clean as the wet season begins.
With wet season comes Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue, Diarrhea (LTDD) and Ms Robinson says they are fully aware of the febrile illness.
Although they don’t have a clean up campaign schedule at the moment, council workers walk around every day to make sure that water was not being retained in drains.
“We need a united effort; ratepayers have to clean their yards as well and get rid of all receptacles that are holding the water,” Ms Robinson said.
“We need to keep cleaning up.”
