A total of 1,159 tonnes of recyclable waste has been shipped out of the Pacific through the Moana Taka Partnership programme, using Swire Shipping vessels.

The Moana Taka Partnership programme is a partnership between The China Navigation Company Ltd./ Swire Shipping Agencies, and SPREP to provide free container hire and free shipment of eligible waste between Swire Shipping serviced ports.

Last week the company was awarded the Sustainability Award for Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance at the Seatrade Maritime Awards 2022 in London.

Managing director Jeremy Sutton said Swire Shipping was committed to be an industry leader and embedding sustainability in the way the company conducted business.

“Doing the right thing has been a core commitment over the past 150 years of our history and is an important part of our vision to be the leading provider of safe, sustainable, innovative supply chain solutions and our customers’ partner of choice.”

In 2021, the company had achieved a 98.86 per cent reduction in the number of single-use plastic bottles from its 2018 baseline.
