Mere Usakinakete’s only birth certificate was destroyed during Tropical Cyclone (TC) Winston in the Ra province in 2016.

For years, she could not find a way to get a new copy.

At 79 years old, Ms Usakinakete was unable to travel on dusty roads, nor did she have the money to pay for her expenses.

She lives alone at her husband’s village of Namarai in the district of Nakorotubu.

However, when she found out that the Ministry of Justice would be in the district yesterday through the Rights, Empowerment and Cohesion (REACH) programme, she made it her mission to get a copy of her birth certificate done.
